Photo Submission Tips
A great photo means better ratings. Follow these simple tips to help your dog shine in the community gallery.
Use natural light
Photograph your dog outdoors or near a window during the day. Soft, natural light brings out fur detail and eye colour — avoid harsh midday sun and strong overhead lights that create shadows.
Keep the background clean
A simple, uncluttered background keeps the focus on your dog. Grass, a plain wall or a tidy room works far better than a busy sofa or cluttered floor.
Get down to their level
Shoot at eye level with your dog rather than from above. This captures their expression and personality, and produces a far more engaging, rateable photo.
Capture personality
A genuine expression — a head tilt, a play bow, a happy grin — earns higher ratings than a stiff pose. Use a favourite toy or treat to get a natural, alert look.
Focus on the eyes
Sharp eyes make a photo feel alive. Tap to focus on your dog's face before shooting, and make sure the eyes are crisp — slightly soft fur is fine, blurry eyes are not.
Fill the frame
Move closer so your dog fills a good portion of the frame. A tight, well-framed shot shows detail and character; a tiny dog in a huge scene gets lost.
What to avoid
- Blurry or out-of-focus photos
- Very dark or heavily shadowed shots
- Other people's dogs or copyrighted images
- Heavy filters or obvious digital alteration
- Cluttered, messy backgrounds
